Science & Technology
Turning innovation into practical solutions
Predicting the behavior of terrorists. Detecting weapons of mass destruction. Simulating disasters, attacks, and response efforts. Developing sophisticated training systems. In all of these ways and more, pioneering science and technology are advancing the tools and effectiveness of homeland security and defense.
Northrop Grumman supplies the expertise, facilities, processes, and people to turn great ideas into practical security solutions and products. One of the world's premier systems integrators, we develop and integrate leading edge solutions and systems for your most complex challenges.
Threat management systems
Our science and engineering team has integrated advanced prevention and detection systems to reduce the threats posed by weapons of mass destruction. These systems support high-reliability public health surveillance and strengthen incident response actions. We also apply our groundbreaking work in weather systems to provide sensor networks to predict and track the airborne path of biological, chemical, or radiological releases. Our prevention and detection systems employ the latest sensor technology, which offers improved sensitivity and fewer false alarms, as well as biodetection stand-off capabilities, which increase the safety of personnel and the public.
Intelligence fusion
Based on our industry-leading experience with global C4ISR defense and intelligence systems, we offer powerful intelligence fusion solutions that compile data from multiple sources and process it into actionable information. We can adapt these solutions to homeland security and defense needs at any level - national, regional, state, and local. This is a key technology for coordinating emergency response efforts and supplying first responders with critical information.
Modeling & simulation
Employing some of the world's most advanced modeling and simulation (M&S) facilities, we provide exceptionally accurate simulations of terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and more familiar emergencies, such as fires, explosions, hazmat releases, and major traffic accidents. Our M&S tools enable us to assess the impact of biological, chemical, and nuclear incidents. We can also simulate a complete range of response scenarios to test the effectiveness of your current capabilities and evaluate the steps needed to achieve optimum preparedness, balancing resource allocation against probable threat levels.
Wireless solutions
Our wireless local area networks create an "invisible infrastructure" that makes network data, voice, and video accessible in places where wires cannot go. The advantages for first responders and homeland security infrastructures are clear - especially when your wireless solution can be mobile and secure. All of these capabilities are available today - thanks to Northrop Grumman. We have consistently led the way in secure and mobile wireless solutions for defense, intelligence, and public safety organizations. With our partner General Dynamics-DS, we developed and fielded the only NSA approved type-one encrypted wireless LAN solution. We have supplied more than 30,000 mobile data units to law enforcement agencies nationwide. And the U.S. Army turned to us for state-of-the-art secure, mobile WLAN units.
